Ruby’s Rockets Frozen Fruit and Veggie Popsicles

With temperatures permanently stuck above 100 degrees, my daughter and I are constantly searching for ways to beat the heat. Unfortunately, a lot of the cold treats found at the grocery store contain ingredients we can’t pronounce and don’t want to purchase. Enter Ruby’s Rockets, a frozen pop made from fruits and veggies!

The pops were created by Hollywood actress and mom, Wendy Makkena, and her 13-year-old daughter, Ruby, as a delicious and nutritious way to get their daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The idea came to them one day when one of Wendy’s delicious “green” smoothies knocked over and, reaching for a towel, they instead found a Popsicle mold. That was the “AHA” moment and the birth of Ruby’s Rockets.

Kid Tested, Mom Approved!

My daughter is an excellent eater, adventurous in all ways EXCEPT some strange hesitation when it comes to some veggies. Although she promises to love them when she gets older, that relationship has not yet bloomed. So, like all good moms, I told her to, “eat this and tell me what you think.” No description, no preface, no highlighting veggies contained within. We started with the Orbit Orange and quickly devoured our way through three boxes (six pops each box) of the very creative pops. My daughter’s favorite ended up being Galaxy Green which I’m VERY excited about, and I loved the subtle earthiness of Rock-It Red. A BIG beet fan myself, I could immediately taste the sweetness and recognized the beautiful color from red beets in the pops. (No red dye here!)

  1. I would love to try Rock-it Red! (Although all sound great!) I was talking with another blogger about these at the Spamalot premier at Woodlawn, but I can’t remember his name.

  2. Orbit orange! I love all things orange, as does my two year old son, but so far he hasn’t taken to cold things like Popsicles. Would love to give him a special treat like these healthy delicious Popsicles!

  3. The Rock-It red would be mandatory in my house! My little loves strawberries, and red is his favorite color!

  4. I love the red one’s and I follow you guys on twitter and liked you guys on facebook
