2010 US Census | Importance & Information

According to the Constitution, a US Census is required every 10 years. Why do we need to fill out the survey that’s still mailed to us? (They’re currently experimenting with Internet response forms for the future; maybe by 2020 they’ll have progressed…)

$400 billion in federal funds will be allocated to different cities, based on the responses. This money can be used for:

Hospitals
Job training centers
Schools
Senior centers
Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
Emergency services

The 2010 Census form is just 10 questions pertaining to:

Name
Sex
Age
Date of birth
Hispanic origin
Race
Household relationship
If you own or rent

If you did not receive a form (or LOST it…), call the Telephone Questionnaire Assistance center at 1-866-872-6868 unless you prefer a Spanish-speaking operator, then dial 1-866-928-2010 between 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (your local time) seven days a week from February 25, 2010 through July 30, 2010.

It’s against the law to NOT fill out the census form…otherwise you might be visited by the census taker. Here’s how to prepare for a visit from them.
